96: Fighting To End Fighting
Wednesday Aug 01, 2012
Wednesday Aug 01, 2012
When warfare turns ugly, as it so often does, how do we assign blame? I often (with an almost adolescent sense of justice) ask "who started it?" or look to moments when compromise or surrender should have occurred. It is from this perspective that I hold the Japanese military leadership during World War II responsible for the existence of nuclear warfare, even though they didn't develop the weapons that devastated Hiroshima and Nagasaki and they certainly didn't drop the bombs on their own country. 85: What it Means to Worship
Monday Apr 02, 2012
Monday Apr 02, 2012
Ritual can be a part of authentic worship, but if that's all there is then it is almost certainly false. My faith has consistently affirmed the conviction that God is "present" within worship, not as a judgmental taskmaster but as a loving, creative force. Genuine worship changes over time, even from week to week. Rather than being regimented, if it is truly God-focused then it will reflect the Lord's mysterious ways. Anything less than a journey into this heart of wonder may be "religious" but it certainly isn't spiritual. Different Drummer: Rick Moyer Take Him With You

41: Gone but not forgotten (and yet left behind)
Wednesday Dec 29, 2010
Wednesday Dec 29, 2010
Should auld acquaintance be forgot and never brought to mind? No, and the same applies to family. For me, the cryptic lyrics to a song so often sung on New Year's Eve has extra meaning because the day itself recalls loved ones who have gone too soon and left us behind. Sorry, but it is a struggle for me to look at this time of year without wrestling with regrets. Different Drummer: Tony Pucci Tony Pucci & Songs For Jenny

19: Why football is still just soccer to Americans
Saturday Jul 10, 2010
Saturday Jul 10, 2010
Americans have a somewhat adolescent obsession with fairness. As an example: most of our sports, including our "football" game, include specific penalties for simulating injury. USA results at this year's World Cup have attracted the largest American audience ever, but FIFA's inability or unwillingness to address simulation of injury will stop the largest sports market in the world from getting fully invested in the planet's most popular game. 11: Delicate topics and how to have an inappropriate conversation
Sunday May 16, 2010
Sunday May 16, 2010
Here's an Inappropriate Conversation about how to have an inappropriate conversation. Things only grow when you shine your light on them. Fair-skinned as my family is, though, how do I let the sun shine in without getting burned? Even more important, I need to make sure the storyteller doesn't get in the way of the stories I need to tell. Different Drummer: Allison Downing http://www.simplysyndicated.com/
